Record length of 2000 km weakly-coupled 7-core MCF produced from a single large-scale MCF preform

Abstract

We present the design and fabrication of more than 2000 km of a 7-core multi-core fiber (MCF) drawn from a single large-scale MCF preform. The fiber was fabricated without any online fiber breaks and exhibits axially excellent geometrical conformity. First fiber measurements are discussed. This work demonstrates the upscaling potential to pave the way for cost-efficient MCF production.
