Fiber-optic laser-sensor for online and in-situ monitoring of volcano gases

Abstract

An evanescent-field fiber-sensor is used to monitor the CO2-concentration directly within a fumerole with a time resolution better than minutes. This device facilitates long-term measurements and offers great potential as precursor for volcanic activity.
