Abstract
One attractive feature of the VAD method is the continuous fabrication of the fiber preform along the axial direction,1 so the VAD method is extremely suitable for the mass production of optical fiber. The conventional preform made by the VAD method is usually up to 300 mm in length. Recent continuous fabrication techniques have progressed to give a long-size preform up to 1500 mm, from which a 300-km long fiber can be drawn.
