Abstract
Microwave excitation is a simple practical method of pumping high-pressure rare-gas-halide laser systems which avoids the discharge instabilities of typical avalanche discharges. Thus long pulse high-repetition rate operation is possible. In addition, the device can be easily constructed with high-vacuum halogen compatible materials and is free from electrode sputtering problems.
