Abstract

The imaging chain does not culminate with the creation of the image, but only after the image is projected onto the eye and processed by human visual and decision systems. The photograph shows an x-ray reflected in the eye of an observer: the ghostly white form at the center of the pupil is the reflection of the chest x-ray; the white streak corresponds to the patient s spine; the ribs, which are lower contrast, cannot be seen in the reflection.
