Optical Materials Express Feature Announcement

Organic and Polymeric Materials for Photonic Applications

Submission Opens:1 March 2017

Submission Deadline: 1 April 2017

The Optical Materials Express feature issue on "Organic and Polymeric Materials for Photonic Applications" will highlight research presented at the International Conference on Frontiers of Polymers and Advanced Materials (ICFPAM 2016) held at the Daejeon Convention Center, Daejeon, South Korea from 31 Oct - 4 Nov 2016. While meeting participants are particularly encouraged to submit, papers from the wider scientific community will also be considered.

This feature issue will focus on emerging trends in photonic applications of organic and polymeric materials. Photonic materials, structures, and their applications are changing all facets of human activity, including energy generation and storage, information processing, biomedical applications, defense, among others. Research has led to development and application of new classes of organic and polymeric materials that allow simple engineering of their properties through synthesis or processing. The articles in this feature issue will explore such materials and their important applications to photonics.

Topics include but are not limited to:

  • Organic, polymeric, or composite materials for optoelectronics including light emitters, lenses, optical filters, optical modulators, etc.
  • OLEDs for displays and lighting.
  • Fluorescent organic molecules, biological as well as synthetic biological materials, for high resolution imaging of biological structures.
  • Active or passive polymer matrices for such applications.
  • The customization of chemical structure and properties of small organic molecules for the design of smart materials.
  • Polymer scaffolds used in cell culturing and tissue growth.
  • Lithographic techniques in tissue engineering aimed at studying cell growth and proliferation.

All papers need to present original, previously unpublished work, and will be subject to the normal standards and peer-review process of the journal. Papers will be published online upon acceptance. Please note that submissions to this feature issue incur the normal OMEx publication fee.

Manuscripts must be prepared according to the usual standards for submission to Optical Materials Express and must be uploaded through OSA's electronic submission system. When submitting, please specify that the manuscript is for the Organic and Polymeric Materials for Photonic Applications feature issue (choose from the drop-down menu).
