Optical Materials Express Feature Issue

Oxide Materials for Emerging Applications in Photonics

Submissions opens: 1 May 2022
Submissions close: 1 June 2022

Oxides are useful in a wide range of applications because of their low optical losses, high damage threshold, high manufactured quality, and environmental stability. Both crystalline and amorphous forms are enabling new applications in thin-film and nanostructured devices. This feature issue will highlight the diversity of physical phenomena found in oxides that underpin new photonic applications. Submissions that focus on the development of materials, fabrication methods, deposition, or patterning that may enable new functionality are welcome.

Topics to be covered include but are not limited to:

  • High-index oxides for nanophotonics and metasurfaces
  • Oxides for nonlinear optics
  • Oxides for integrated photonics
  • Conducting oxides in plasmonics and ENZ
  • Oxides in photonics for energy
  • Oxides in optical sensing
  • Oxides in photonic quantum technologies
  • Oxides for phonon-polaritonics and thermal applications
  • Active light emission using oxides, including excitons
  • Oxide thin films and multilayers
  • Oxide nanowires, nanotubes, nanobelts
  • Oxide nanocrystals
  • Atomically structured and 2D layered oxides

Manuscripts must be prepared according to the usual guidelines for submission to Optical Materials Express and must be submitted online through Prism's manuscript submission system. When submitting, authors should specify that the manuscript is for the "Oxide Materials for Emerging Applications in Photonics" feature issue (choose from the drop-down menu).
