Halide Perovskites for Optoelectronics

Optics Express (OpEx) and Optical Materials Express (OMEx) will publish a joint feature issue on Halide Perovskites for Optoelectronics, a growing area of research that has led to improved efficiencies of solar cells and the potential for better performing LEDs and other optoelectronic devices. Halide perovskites belong to a large family of materials which can manifest themselves in various structural dimensionality ranging from layered 2D perovskites to 3D bulk-like systems, and even 0D and 1D systems. Perovskites present a number of exciting opportunities for optoelectronic applications. Much of the current focus is on solution-processed perovskites due to the ease and low-cost of fabrication, as well as compatibility with flexible and lightweight substrates. The wide range of compositions available also provides bandgap tunability from visible to near infrared wavelengths. Although these characteristics are shared with organic semiconductors and colloidal quantum dots, the electronic properties of perovskites can be much better than these materials and more closely resemble high-quality inorganic semiconductors, such as silicon and III-V materials. The emergent low-dimensional and multi-dimensional quantum-confined perovskite systems offer even more exhilarating possibilities for exploring novel photophysics and developing new optoelectronic applications.

This feature issue will cover perovskites as they apply to optoelectronic device applications, as well as the broader areas of material properties, including simulation and optical characterization, and novel applications. The scope will include solar cells and light-emitting structures or devices based on perovskites, such as lasers or LEDs. Materials, structures, and devices based on hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites, inorganic perovskites, Pb-free perovskites, Bi-based perovskites, and ternary halides (Cs3Bi2I9) will also be covered.

Choosing the Appropriate Journal
Authors may choose to submit to either OpEx or OMEx, but authors should recognize the difference between them and select the appropriate journal for submission. If the selection of the journal is inappropriate, the guest editors could recommend to the authors a transfer to the other journal. For OMEx, submissions will emphasize the development or characterization and optical properties of perovskite materials suited to photonic and optoelectronic applications. All other topics, including novel structures and devices, including solar cells, LEDs, and lasers based on such materials, will be better suited for OpEx.

All papers need to present original, previously unpublished work, and will be subject to the normal standards and peer-review process of the journals. Papers will be published in their respective journals online upon acceptance, and all papers will later be combined in a virtual table of contents. The standard OpEx and OmEx publication charges will apply to all published articles.

Manuscripts must be prepared according to the usual standards for submission to Optics Express and Optical Materials Express and must be submitted online through OSA's online submission system. When submitting, authors must specify that the manuscript is for the "Halide Perovskites for Optoelectronics" feature issue.
