The open-access electronic journal Optical Materials Express is planning a feature issue on chirality in optics. Chirality is a fundamental property of molecules and materials leading to very interesting optical activity effects. Classical optical activity effects such as optical rotation and circular dichroism have been known for many years and are of crucial importance to investigate the structure of molecules and to elucidate the secondary structure of biomolecules. Other optical activity effects also exist, both in linear and nonlinear optics, and are becoming increasingly important. Furthermore, new chiral materials based on nanoscale building blocks show very peculiar and new optical effects that can have important applications in optical communication, biological sensing and data storage.
To emphasize this continuously growing and interesting field, Optical Materials Express is soliciting original papers in the broad field of chiral optical effects and materials. Topics include, but are not limited to:
In general, all experimental and theoretical papers dealing with optical properties of chiral systems in the field of chemistry, biology and physics are welcome.
All papers need to present original, previously unpublished work, and will be subject to the normal criteria and peer-review process of the journal. The regular publication charges for the journal will apply. Papers will be published online in Optical Materials Express upon completion.
Manuscripts must be prepared according to the standard author instructions for submission to Optical Materials Express and submitted through OSA's online submission system. When submitting, please specify that the manuscript is for the Chirality in Optics feature issue (choose from the drop-down menu).
