Radiation-induced attenuation (RIA) mechanisms in optical fiber preforms were experimentally investigated, revealing temperature ranges at which trapped-carrier states that form intrinsic or dopant-related color centers are released, enabling the assessment of their activation energies. This image shows a bleaching map with lines marking the main centers of some important RIA bands. See Mady et al. Optical Materials Express 9, 2466-2489 (2019).
