Abstract
Measurements of the 4A2(−3/2) → Ē(−1/2) optical dephasing time in ruby are obtained for the first reported time and compared with the previously studied 4A2(−1/2) → Ē(−1/2) transition. Frozen-core effects reduce the ratio of dephasing times T2(−1/2)/T2(−3/2) to 1.5 from the value 7.6 expected from a simple magnetic tuning rate consideration.
