Carbonyl fluoride (COF2): strong new continuous-submillimeter-wave laser source

Abstract

Submillimeter-wave laser action in COF2 is reported. Thirteen lines in the wavelength range from 379 to 1900 μm were observed when COF2 was pumped by various CO2 lines in the 10-μm band. A significant portion of the lines has relatively long wavelengths; COF2 appears to be one of the strongest cw lasers in this long-wavelength region.
