Abstract

A novel all-diode-pumped master oscillator power amplifier system based on Yb:YAG crystal rods has been developed. It consists of a Q-switched oscillator delivering 3mJ, 6.4ns pulses at a 10Hz repetition rate and an additional four-pass amplifier, which boosts the output energy to 220mJ, while a close to TEM00 beam quality could be observed. Additionally a simulation of the amplification was written that allows for further scaling considerations.

Scheme of the amplifier setup. The oscillator consists of two concave mirrors (M1, M2) with r = 1000 mm , a Pockels cell (PC), a quarter-wave-plate (QWP), a pinhole (PH), a thin-film polarizer (TFP), a half-wave-plate (HWP), a pump, and the Yb:YAG crystal. For the four-pass amplifier four turning mirrors (M), a pump mirror (PM), a Yb:YAG crystal, and an identical pump were used. An additional isolator (Iso) prevents unwanted backreflection, and a telescope ensures beam matching. The subfigures show the output profile of the oscillator (In), the output profile of the amplifier (Out), and the pulse duration.
