Abstract

Effective noise reduction in a diode-pumped intracavity-doubled Nd:YVO4 laser is achieved with a novel cavity design in which a birefringent filter is formed with off-axially cut Nd:YVO4 and KTP. 20-mW green output with relative intensity noise of less than-120 dB/Hz was obtained under 290-mW pumping by a broad-area laser diode.

Schematic of the intracavity-doubled laser with off-axially cut Nd:YVO4 and KTP. The optic axis of the Nd:YVO4 crystal is tilted by the angle θ from the optical axis of the cavity. The principal axes of the KTP crystal were twisted by ϕ from those of Nd:YVO4. The polarization of the pumping beam was selected to lie in the principal section of the Nd:YVO4 crystal.
