Abstract
Gratings written in a BaTiO3 crystal by two-wave mixing are read out by measurement of the diffraction coefficient as a function of detuning from the Bragg condition. From the Fourier transform of the diffraction coefficient as a function of the deviation from the Bragg condition, the envelope function of the index grating in the crystal is obtained along with the relative phase shift. The feasibility of this method is proven experimentally. This method can be applied to any thick holographic medium.
