Abstract

We propose the exact expression of the bit-error rate for optical soliton communication systems with lumped amplifiers by considering the combined effect of timing jitter and energy fluctuation. Some numerical examples are given, and the dependence of the optimal fiber dispersion on the amplification period and the transmission distance is discussed.
