Abstract
We obtain approximate solutions of self-trapped laser beams with arbitrary dimension D in arbitrary intensity-dependent media using two trial fields for Galerkin’s method, one of which is proposed here. The new field is a linear combination of the hyperbolic-secant and the Lorentzian functions. A comparison between the two fields shows that the proposed field yields more accurate results for large D.
