Abstract
A new nonlinear polarization phenomenon, namely, the rotation of the polarization plane of a light beam normally reflected from the surface of a cubic crystal, has been experimentally observed. An excitonic resonance rotation of the order of 1 deg has been detected on reflection from a 〈001〉 GaAs surface for an excitation of the order of 10−4 J/cm2.
