Abstract
We demonstrate numerically and experimentally a gain-managed nonlinear amplifier with a large mode area fiber. The amplifier delivers 1.2 µJ and sub-40 fs pulses with the spectrum spanning from ${\sim}{{1000}}$ to ${\sim}{{1180}}\;{\rm{nm}}$. We show that longitudinal gain-loss evolution plays an essential role in pulse formation by comparing simulations with different gain models to the experimental results.
