Abstract

Scattering by randomly shaped particles is investigated for a better understanding of the optical properties of biological tissue and cell suspensions. After proposing the generation functions for the randomly shaped particles, the T-matrix method and appropriate effective size distribution are applied. The derived phase functions show good agreement with the experimental results. Implications for microscopic tissue diagnosis are discussed.
