Abstract

A Cr3+:LiSAF laser oscillator self-injection locked by an externally coupled fiber grating was constructed. Single-mode operation in a Cr3+:LiSAF laser was obtained by use of a 67%-reflectivity fiber grating that was fabricated with a holographic technique in which a narrow-band KrF UV laser exposure was used. This configuration permits the use of a fiber grating with optimum reflectivity for efficient single-mode operation.

Fabry–Perot interference fringe pattern of a spectrally narrowed Cr3+:LiSAF laser. Single-mode operation was obtained with a resolution-limited linewidth of <0.025 cm−1. The free-spectral range of the Fabry–Perot interferometer was 0.22 cm−1.
