18-fs pulses from a self-mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser are amplified to 60 μJ of energy at 4.9 kHz with chirped-pulse amplification in a Ti:sapphire regenerative amplifier. After recompression, 30–35-fs, near-transform-limited pulses are obtained.

Spectra of the amplified pulses for 17 (solid curve) and 90 (dashed curve) round trips through the regenerative amplifier. Also shown for comparison is the spectrum of the seed pulse (dotted curve) just as it enters the amplifier.

Autocorrelation of the amplified pulse. The pulse width is found to be 30.5 fs by fitting to a sech2 autocorrelation function.
