Feature Issue of Optics Express

Solar Hydrogen Generation

Submission Opens: 1 October 2018
Submission Deadline: 1 November 2018

Optics Express welcomes submissions to a feature issue on "Solar Hydrogen Generation," which will be published in the Energy Express dedicated section of the journal. This issue aims to highlight the recent progress and trends in general fields related to solar hydrogen and solar fuel generation via techniques such as photoelectrochemical (PEC), photochemical, and artificial photosynthesis. Solar hydrogen generation via PEC or photochemical water splitting techniques using sunlight, water, and semiconductor materials is a promising alternative to conventional fossil fuels. Solar hydrogen fuel produced using these methods is renewable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Growth and characterization of nanoscale photoelectrodes for water splitting applications
  • Hydrogen and oxygen evolution catalysts for water photoelectrolysis
  • Photocatalysis for air/water depollution
  • Engineered micro-nanophotonic structures for light trapping
  • Methods and analysis of catalyst loading and solar-to-hydrogen energy conversion efficiency for nanoscale photocatalysts and photoelectrodes
  • Determination of the band edge potentials of the nanoscale photoelectrodes
  • Hybrid photoelectrodes for efficient photoelectrolysis
  • New techniques for improved photoelectrode stability
  • Synthesis and characterization of scalable and cost effective electro-catalysts
  • Novel semiconductor nanostructures for PEC
  • Novel photoelectrochemical cell design and development
  • Accurate methods of calculating solar-to-hydrogen energy conversion efficiency
  • Design and deployment of solar hydrogen system

All papers need to present original, previously unpublished work and will be subject to the normal standards and peer review processes of the journal. The standard Optics Express Article Processing Charges will apply to all published articles.

Please prepare manuscripts according to the author instructions for submission to Optics Express and submit through OSA's electronic submission system, specifying from the drop-down menu that the manuscript is for the Feature Issue on Solar Hydrogen Generation.
