A surface integral equation (SIE) formulation is applied to the analysis of electromagnetic problems involving three-dimensional (3D) piecewise homogenized left-handed metamaterials (LHM). The authors show (1744K) of the electric-field intensity distribution illustrating the focusing effect and the reversal of the phase velocity of a strongly diverging Gaussian beam as it propagates inside a matched LHM slab with n = −1.
