Abstract

A new method is proposed for performing a Q-switched laser operation with mode locking by using a spherical mirror (SM) and one traveling wave acousto-optic modulator (AOM), the SMAOM method. The temporal, spectral, and energy output characteristics of a diode-pumped Nd3+:YAG laser with SMAOM, along with the new results on obtaining powerful ultraviolet and mid-IR radiation based on the pumping of nonlinear crystals by such a laser, are presented.
