Abstract
This paper discusses the diffraction of light on the periodic structure formed in glass when it is thermally polarized by means of an anode with periodic (0.8 μm) relief of the surface structure. Based on measurements of the diffraction efficiency as a function of the thermal annealing time of the fabricated sample, an estimate is obtained of the diffusion coefficient of the hydronium ion that participates in the polarization process of the glass. Stabilization of the structure is demonstrated for long annealing times; this is probably associated with phase decay of the polarized glass.
