Abstract

This paper presents a derivation of the relationships that determine the magnitude and character of the change of the meridional and sagittal coma of an image as a function of the magnitude and character of the change of the spherical aberration and the deviation from the sine condition in any zone of a pencil of light rays that form an image. The derivation is based on the properties of a light tube and the geometrical relationships that determine the ray path in an optical system.
