Abstract

A spectroscopic and thermodynamic study of heavy water has been carried out in order to set up a correct isotopic analysis. The dependence of the natural absorption index α(ν) of heavy water on its concentration is analyzed. It is shown that this dependence in general has a quadratic character to within 0.1 at. % and that this dependence becomes linear when one of the hydrogen isotopes H or D has a concentration of less than 1 at. % in heavy water. Based on this analysis, α(ν) dependences on the concentration of heavy water are experimentally obtained that have the desired form.
