Abstract

Lighting-system modules have been designed that form a uniformly illuminated region of hexagonal shape for the Luxeon® Rebel Cool-White LED. The rms error with which a uniform irradiance distribution having an angular size of 143°is formed at a distance of 15 mm from the radiation source was 3–4% with an energy efficiency greater than 81%. These modelling results show that a large, uniformly illuminated region can be formed by means of a system of the indicated modules, located at the nodes of a rhombic grid.
