Abstract

This paper discusses the propagation of light through a planar layer of an amplifying chiral photonic crystal (CPC). One limiting case is investigated--namely, the case of a locally isotropically refractive but anisotropically amplifying CPC. The spectral features of reflection, transmission, rotation of the plane of polarization, and polarization ellipticity are investigated both in the absence of dielectric boundaries and in their presence. The properties of the eigenpolarizations are studied.
