Abstract

This paper discusses the mechanism by which moiré fringes are formed when monochromatic patterns are incoherently added in the OSIRIS stellar interferometer. A prototype interferometer is used to study the spectral patterns of fringes as the path difference varies. Results are given of the recording of moiré fringes for the initial tuning of the prototype interferometer to an infinitely wide fringe.
