Abstract
This paper proposes a two-beam method of cutting up brittle nonmetallic materials that essentially consists of simultaneously irradiating the item being processed by two laser beams with different wavelengths, one of which corresponds to a region of intense absorption by the surface layers of the sample, while the other corresponds to a region of volume absorption. Using the method of finite elements in the framework of thermoelasticity theory, the thermoelastic fields that appear in the test samples are numerically calculated. Based on the numerical analysis, the distinguishing features of the process of two-beam cutting of brittle nonmetallic materials are elucidated.
