Abstract

This paper discusses the problems that arise when studying and predicting space weather because solar activity is not monitored in the short-wavelength region. Most of the energy flux that controls the state of the earth's ionosphere and thermosphere reaches us as the short-wavelength (ionizing) radiation of the sun—soft x-rays and extreme UV. Therefore, to provide constant monitoring of the spectrum and of the absolute flux of ionizing solar radiation in the given range, it is proposed to create a Permanent Space Solar Patrol based on already-available optoelectronic apparatus, including both radiometers and spectrometers.
