The scattering pattern of laser light is used in the optical sensing of wood density. The shape of the scattering pattern is observed to correlate with the density of 400 µm thick wood slices. Also a diffractive optical element based sensor is used in for determination of the density of 400 µm thick wood samples. A comparison of these measurement techniques is given.
