Abstract

A way of doing numerical calculations of the optical parameters for a reflective LCD is presented. The optimization procedure for such a display is carried out based on these calculations. The results are obtained for different properties of the display elements such as the polarizing films and the dichroic liquid crystal layer. Calculations are done for a given antireflective layer, conductive layer, glass, etc. As a result the characteristics of the contrast ratio of a reflective twisted nematic display are presented as a function of the properties of the different display elements. © 2005 Optical Society of America
