Photonic-crystal lightguides based on quartz glass with a hollow core 17-40 µm in diameter have been developed and implemented. The dependence of the shape of the transmission spectrum on the core diameter and the step of the structure of the polycapillary cladding is investigated. It is noted that there is a substantial reduction of the optical losses by comparison with a counterpart lightguide having continuous cladding. © 2005 Optical Society of America
