Abstract
This paper presents a mathematical model for describing the propagation of light in tubular fibers of dentin having transverse dimensions comparable with the wavelength of the light. The matrices of the characteristic equations are obtained for computing the propagation constants of the waveguide modes of a tubular waveguide for isotropic and anisotropic substances of the light-conducting tube. Ways of taking into account the mutual effect of the adjacent fibers and the geometrical features of the dentin fibers are pointed out. © 2005 Optical Society of America
