Abstract
This paper discusses the main operating features of hoods with conical diaphragms. The hoods can successfully be used as part of a topographic apparatus complex placed on board spacecraft for imaging of the earth's surface. The geometrical and physical characteristics of the hoods are investigated on the basis of criteria for evaluating the efficiency. Certain features of the functioning when the wave properties of light are taken into account are described. © 2005 Optical Society of America
