Abstract

The aberrations of optical systems formed by spherical surfaces whose centers coincide and lie on coincident object and image planes are analyzed. Formulas are obtained for estimating the aberrations of a broad meridional beam and the distortion. It is shown that, when certain conditions are satisfied, the circle of confusion for off-axis image points can acquire a shape close to rectangular and square in such systems. © 2005 Optical Society of America
