Abstract
The temperature characteristics of acrylate elastomers intended for the primary coating of quartz-quartz lightguides is studied. The temperature dependences of the refractive index nD of hardened elastomers in the interval from -82°C to +23°C are investigated. It is shown that dn/dt for any type of elastomer is determined by the corresponding volume change. The measured dn/dt values can be used when predicting the optical parameters of lightguides. © 2004 Optical Society of America
