Abstract

This paper proposes a method of estimating the visibility (conspicuity) of automobiles on actual backgrounds, based on a quantitative estimate of the visibility parameters of an object by means of a measurement apparatus. The results of an investigation of these parameters (apparent and threshold contrasts, limiting ranges of detection and recognition) are presented for differently colored prototypes of automobiles on various backgrounds in the winter and the summer.
