Aberrational properties of second-order surfaces of revolution in an axial pencil of rays

Abstract

This paper demonstrates that no refracting surface of revolution exists that forms an aplanatic image of an infinitely remote object. The paper discusses a version of a composition of a two-lens system of an illuminating device with stigmatic correction of the aberrations in the image of an axial point.
