Abstract

This paper presents the results of calculational and experimental studies of the reflection of CO2 laser radiation from vehicles moving along a dirt road and from the resulting dust clouds. The ranging contrast ~RC! of objects on the noise background from the dust clouds is considered. The dependences of the RC of the diffusely reflecting and shiny surface sections of the vehicles on the optical density of the dust clouds are presented for various conditions and ranging methods.
