This paper discusses the variations of the light losses in potassium-aluminoborate glasses containing nanoparticles of manganese ferrite. It is shown that the light absorption and scattering in them are determined by the ratio of paramagnetic oxides and by the temperature of the secondary heat treatment. The contributions to the light losses from absorption and scattering are determined. For decreased concentrations of iron oxide, the absorption spectra break down into the components of the absorption band. A discussion is given of the nature of the variation of the spectral dependences on the composition of the precipitated ferrite phase, the size of its particles, and the heat-treatment conditions. The glasses are promising for magnetooptics in the 1-2-µm spectral region.
