Abstract

Two different sensing mechanisms, the resonance coupling effect and the photonic bandgap effect, are realized in the same section of fiber with hybrid-filled technology. Experimental investigations demonstrate that the shifts of the resonant dip and the left edge of the bandgap show different velocities with both temperature and force, and the insertion loss is 10 dB lower than that of cascaded fiber. Therefore, hybrid-filled fiber can be used as a dual-parameter sensor with the various advantages of high sensitivities, easy fabrication, compact structure, and low loss.
