Abstract
We study the form factors of holograms using an approach that accounts for the temporal coherence of the laser radiation used to record the hologram. We use the classical definition of coherence degree, which includes a time component, and determine the effect of this component on fringe visibility in the interference pattern used to produce the hologram. We show that there are frequency-related limits on the maximum achievable hologram diffraction efficiency. These limits are imposed via the coherence length of the laser radiation. The impact of these limits is limited by the nonlinearity of the holographic-medium photoresponse.
