Abstract

A layout for constructing the cavity of a passively Q-switched laser is considered, which allows smooth tuning of the energy and width of the lasing pulses. The cavity consists of three arms with polarization couplings between them that are controlled by the rotation of a phase plate. By varying the coupling factor, it is possible to change the lasing threshold as well as the energy and width of the lasing pulse.
