Abstract

This paper discusses the propagation of light through a planar layer of a chiral photonic crystal (CPC). One limiting case is studied, namely the case of an absorbing CPC in the absence of local refraction. The features of the reflection spectra, the rotation of the plane of polarization, and the polarization ellipticity are investigated both in the absence of dielectric boundaries and in their presence. The properties of the eigenpolarizations are studied.
