Abstract

Based on a waveguide mathematical model of light propagation in the microcapillaries of the hard tissue of the tooth, this paper attempts to explain certain optical phenomena that are observed when light is transmitted through cross-sectioned samples of this tissue, and expressions are also proposed that can be useful when the tissue is experimentally investigated. A comparison is made of the waveguide and scalar models of propagation in a multiwaveguide structure.
