Abstract

A technique has been developed for computing the surface displacements of solid bodies, including determining and eliminating the linear solid-body displacement (LSBD) by means of an optical speckle-correlation technique. A criterion for estimating the LSBD has been substantiated, based on a comparison of two speckle images of the same surface of a material on which two different tensile or compressive loads act. Experiments have been carried out that confirm that the technique is effective when studying the breakdown processes of structural materials. © 2005 Optical Society of America
